“One time, I got sent to the principal’s office for having a glue stick fight with several other students in the back room of the woodshop. There wasn’t any real damage, just a couple of broken glue sticks. But the real kicker of the story is what happened while I was in the Dean of Students’ office. The assistant principal was brand new and still getting his feet wet. While we were there, we went through the usual routine of admitting that what we did was wrong. Then he called our parents. I was terrified! But then I got confused, because from my perspective, the phone call went very strangely. When it ended, his face was red, and he quickly told me I could go back to class. I was still really worried about going home that day. But to my surprise, when I walked into my bedroom, my brother was already there. He pulled me in, shut the door, and started going off about how he had ‘covered for me’. It turns out he was home when the call had come. The downstairs phone was right outside our bedroom, so when the assistant principal called, my brother answered it. He pretended to be my dad and told the assistant principal off! That explained it! And that’s how the one time I got sent to the principal’s office, I never actually got in trouble, because my brother somehow managed to pull off being my Dad!
